  • Really wanting something (For example- a new job, relationship, or improved health) and then losing motivation to get it.
  • Finding something intriguing, but convincing yourself not to take any action to get there.
  • Perpetually thinking about what could be better or different. Indecision, anxiety, and over-thinking prevents you from being in present and enjoying life as it is.

Why do you feel stuck?

It’s not always an easy question to respond. “Stuckness” can have different guises.

Below are a few scenarios when you might want to move, but not know how to. 

You fear external judgement

Even with the help of your network, certain decisions can be tough to make.

Without that support, the challenge becomes even more significant. Their advice is valuable. However, putting too much value in what other may say or any criticism they may have of your choice can be debilitating.

You are comparing yourself to others

Never forget the proverb “Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Consider your development, your potential, and your future in relation to yourself. Refrain from constantly comparing yourself to others and feeling inadequate as a result.

You have outgrown your current situation

People do, in fact, evolve throughout time. Your wants, needs, and hopes all change over time.

Maybe now that you’ve mastered it, that ideal job you secured a year ago doesn’t stimulate you enough. You might be unsure about where to turn next in a case like this.

You feel disconnected from your values often

When your values are not sufficiently present in your life, it can cause life to lose its shine.

Your values may begin to wane if the circumstances in your daily life don’t allow them to flourish.

You might feel like you’re not being your most genuine self as a result.

You fear a change might mean losing something

You might, for example, desire a new position but cling to your existing one. Perhaps you feel secure and stable in your current position.

You can start to think in very binary terms and start viewing choices as “either/or.” Give yourself permission to consider “yes/and” thinking.

It is feasible to have a new work and financial security with this way of thinking.

You are overwhelmed or exhausted

You can feel overburdened by your situation and current events. Alternately, you can become anxious by the potential and pressure of your upcoming action.

Being overwhelmed can be challenging to get over, whether it’s about the past or a possible future.

You have given up on the future

Our minds and thoughts are powerful tools. They have the power to move us in the direction we desire to go or to fixate us in one spot.

Particularly negative ideas have a lot of power and can evoke a wide range of feelings, including despair, fear, and unworthiness. Fighting these gloomy ideas and emotions makes progress challenging.

Your positives vs negatives are in competition

There might be numerous reasons to make a change and equally strong reasons not to.

For example, you may desire to change your job, but also greatly value your free time. A new job search can take up some of your leisure time. How do you behave? You could get caught in a pointless vicious cycle if you follow this kind of pattern.

You are outside your comfort zone

You may know what you need to do to become unstuck but feel uncomfortable moving forward.

For instance, If you’re testing a skill or behavior for the first time. You might not be entirely sure of what to do. You could be fighting self-doubt or perfectionism. Fear of making a mistake or of getting a less-than-ideal result can hold you back.
